The Exciters were a group you could see as much as hear. This page gathers the visual history of the group — the stage, the era and the people behind the music.
The look of the era
Picture early-’60s New York: sharp suits and shimmering dresses, tight choreography under hot theater lights, a lead singer leaning into the microphone while three voices answer behind her. That was the visual signature of The Exciters, of a piece with the golden age of the vocal group.
The people
- Brenda Reid — the lead voice and, through the years, the keeper of the group’s flame.
- Herb Rooney — the group’s sole male member, whose voice anchored the harmonies.
- Carol Johnson and Lillian Walker — the backing voices that gave the records their unmistakable snap.
Photographs from performances, reunions and the road are added here over time. To share an image or a memory of the group, get in touch via the contact page.
