The Exciters were, first and foremost, a live act. The records captured the energy, but the stage was where “Tell Him” truly detonated — and that has never really changed.
From the ’60s circuit to today
In their prime, the group worked the same theaters and package tours that defined the era of early soul, sharing bills with the biggest names of the day and bringing their hand-clapping, foot-stomping sound to audiences across the country. That reputation as a knockout live group followed them for decades.
In more recent years, Brenda Reid has carried the name forward through oldies revues and reunion shows — the kind of “trip down memory lane” concerts where the great vocal groups of the sixties and seventies share a stage and a few thousand fans sing every word. One such evening was an outdoor summer show at Lincoln Center in New York, a celebration of the era’s enduring music.
